Seemann looks for URSS win at hometown track Sunday
By the URSS A pair of top-five finishes would make a lot of drivers happy. Ray Seemann isn't exactly overjoyed. The United Rebel Sprint Series driver from Jetmore finished fourth and fifth at the first two races this season at Beaver County Raceway in Beaver, Okla. Now he's ready to improve on those finishes and get on a roll as the URSS season kicks into high gear. Seemann will get a chance to compete on his hometown track Sunday at the Great American Dirt Track at Jetmore Motorplex. Races are set to begin at 7:30 p.m. “I haven't been finishing where I’d like to,” Seemann said. “We tried some different things with the car this week, and I'm pleased with the way the car went. “This weekend will be the tell-tale for the car, though. I'm more comfortable at Jetmore and know how to set it up for the track. I hope we get back on track.”
Jetmore Motorplex has a solid history of good sprint car racing in the Rebels’ five previous seasons. And Seemann expects more quality action this year as well. “I'm always a little more comfortable on that race track,” Seemann said. “And you have the local support and family there.” Seemann won the last URSS race at Jetmore on Aug. 28. In fact, he's won two of the last three races there and four of the last eight. All four of his wins there came last year. “They always get a pretty good program,” Seemann said. “They maintain the track throughout the night. It dries up like every other track, but they usually go out and pick it up some to keep moisture in places.”
The Rebels will compete 10 times this year on the 3/8-mile dirt oval in Jetmore, located about 6 mile south of the town in Hodgeman County. Seemann is third in URSS national points entering Sunday's race at 282. Jason Martin, the winner Sunday at Beaver, leads the pack with 296, followed by 2008 national champ Brian Herbert (288). Barry Crane (274) and 2010 national champ Ty Williams (272) round out the top five.
